Overview

At DiffSnap, we believe in complete transparency about how we handle your data. This privacy policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have over your data.

🔒 Privacy-First Commitment

Basic text comparison is processed entirely in your browser. For advanced document processing features, files may be temporarily processed on our servers but are automatically deleted within 24 hours. You have complete control over when to use client-side vs server-side processing.

Information We Collect

1. Text Content Processing

Client-Side Processing: Basic text comparison and simple document processing (TXT, basic PDF, Word) happens directly in your browser using JavaScript. For these operations, your text content never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to share it.

Server-Side Document Processing: For complex document formats, large files, or advanced processing features, we may process documents on our servers. When using these features:

  • Documents are temporarily uploaded to our secure servers
  • Files are processed and converted to text format
  • Original files are automatically deleted within 24 hours
  • Extracted text may be briefly cached for performance
  • No permanent storage of document content

2. Analytics Data

We collect anonymous usage analytics through Google Analytics to help improve the service:

  • Page views and session duration
  • Browser type and operating system
  • General geographic location (country/region level)
  • Feature usage patterns (which buttons you click)
  • Error reports for debugging purposes

3. Sharing Feature Data

When you use our sharing feature, we temporarily store:

  • Your text content (encrypted)
  • Share link expiration settings
  • Anonymous usage metadata

How We Use Your Information

1. Service Improvement

Analytics data helps us understand:

  • Which features are most valuable to users
  • Performance issues and bugs
  • User interface improvements needed
  • Browser compatibility requirements

2. Sharing Functionality

Shared content is used only to:

  • Generate accessible share links
  • Maintain content for the specified duration
  • Provide shared comparisons to recipients

Data Storage and Security

Local Processing

Your primary text comparison uses advanced JavaScript algorithms that run entirely in your browser. This means:

  • No need to upload to servers for basic comparisons
  • Instant results with no network latency
  • Complete content privacy
  • Works offline after initial page load

Shared Content Security

When you choose to share content:

  • Data is encrypted in transit and at rest
  • Share links automatically expire (7-90 days)
  • No personal identification required
  • Content permanently deleted after expiration

Your Rights and Choices

Analytics Opt-Out

You can opt out of analytics tracking by:

  • Using your browser's "Do Not Track" settings
  • Installing privacy extensions like uBlock Origin
  • Disabling JavaScript (though this limits functionality)

Data Deletion

For shared content:

  • Content automatically expires based on your settings
  • No account creation means no persistent profile
  • Contact us for urgent deletion of shared content
